IC is short for Interstitial Cystitis, a painful disease in which the lining of the bladder is damaged. A very thorough description, along with help and support, can be found at Interstitial Cystitis Network and Interstitial Cystitis Association. If you are experiencing painful urination and DO NOT have a UTI, if it feels like you are having to pee every 10-15 minutes during the day and several times at night, you may have IC.
BE CAREFUL: The road to a thorough diagnosis and good IC treatment is full of good intentions and bad practitioners. Before my diagnosis, I was told I had “urethral syndrome” and underwent a treatment in which metal rods of expanding sizes were inserted into my urethra in order to “stretch” it…!!! Later I found out this was an outdated procedure which was no longer practiced because of possible damage to the urethra. (!!!)
